The new cultural and convention centre, the Montforthaus, was built in the historic heart of Feldkirch. The urban location and complex supporting structure for the building combine to make the construction work highly demanding. The joint venture of 3 construction companies with JÄGER BAU (Commercial Management and Technical Co-Management) was tasked with the demolition, earthworks and construction works. In total, 30,000 m³ of excavated material were removed; 12,000 m³ of concrete and 1,600 tons of steel were installed. Particular challenges included the extremely elaborate and sophisticated geometries due to the curving architecture, the tight schedule and the simultaneous presence of other craftsmen on site. Up to 70 men worked simultaneously on the shell construction for a total of 110,000 hours. The space allocation plan of the multifunctional building with a total of 6,500 m² of floor space includes as its centrepiece the large hall with gallery for 1,030 visitors, a small hall for 270 visitors, a lobby, meeting rooms, a restaurant on the top floor and an underground car park with 140 parking spaces.
