Paierdorf exploration shaft
Underground Mining Caverns & shafts
JÄGER carried out the construction work for the construction of the exploration shaft in Paierdorf for ÖBB-Infrastruktur Bau AG, part of the exploration programme for the Koralm tunnel. The contract was for a vertical shaft, which was driven into loose material to a depth of 120 m and with a diameter of 9.7 m. The shaft had to pass through both quaternary and tertiary layers, which consisted of a mixture of silt, sand and gravel. The shaft was sunk with the aid of a specially designed sinking shield, secured by rings made of precast concrete segments.
